Death Magnetic Coming to Guitar Hero III and World Tour

September 8, 2008 - Metallica's ninth studio album, Death Magnetic, will be put up for download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock this Friday, September 12. The download will feature two Guitar Hero exclusive versions of the song "Suicide Redemption" that will include extended solos. And if you're worried about buying the album for Guitar Hero III with World Tour just around the corner, you can rest easy. Activision has announced that the download will be forward compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour. You only need to purchase the content for one game and you'll be able to play it in both. Guitar Hero World Tour releases in October.
"We've been working very closely with Metallica and we're extremely excited to offer Death Magnetic not only in its entirety, but also with the exclusive recordings of 'Suicide & Redemption' as downloadable content to Guitar Hero fans," said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Activision Blizzard. "We're proud to be setting a new precedent for our two industries, making an entire new album available in two different mediums simultaneously."
The "Death Magnetic" album download will cost 1440 Microsoft points on Xbox 360 and $17.99 on the PlayStation Store.

If you've got the PS3 version of the game then you get the treat of playing as bonus character Darth Vader and 360 fans get to play as Yoda. There were rumors that people would be able to download the remaining character for their system, but nothing was made official...
This video comes from Gametrailers.com, and seems to be legit. We'll have to wait and see.
In addition to the system specific bonus characters, the Limited Edition version of the game comes with "Bonus Downloadable Content". That means that you get a few extra costume pieces for your characters... Just so you know.

New Guns 'n Roses Song in Rock Band and new Drum Set

Robert Levine of The New York Times reports: A decade and a half after releasing its previous album, GUNS N' ROSES plans to put out a new song in September — on the video game Rock Band 2. MTV expects to announce on Monday that the sequel to its popular Rock Band game will include "Shackler's Revenge", a track from the GUNS N' ROSES album that has been in the works for more than a decade, said people familiar with the deal who spoke on condition of anonymity because the arrangement has yet to be announced.
The inclusion of the song on a game suggests that the GUNS N' ROSES album "Chinese Democracy" will come out this fall, after years of delays. Axl Rose, who has selected replacements for the other original members, has said that the album is finished, but a release date has not been announced.
